According to World Health Organization, 10% of total population is believed to be physically disabled, but the rate is found to be more than 10% in Nepal. Their actual condition hasn’t been clearly manifested at the one named and at the other hand, the concerned authorities also haven’t paid due attention towards addressing this problem. Though physically disabled people can equally contribute like physically able people in course of development, but their position is found to be very backward and miserable in the society.

They are even deprived of basic facilities like a complete utilization of human rights and are found the accessible in the mainstream of development at a result the physically disabled people of our country are also the victim of superstitious belief, it has helped to set a mentality that the matter of disability is a result of curse and sin they have done in their past very few people have knowledge that this is a serious health problem. Due to this feeling prevailing in the society, the physically disabled people are bound to live a very miserable life in one hand and in the other hand their family members to become the victim of inhuman behaviors presented by the members of society.

Nepal Disabled Association Khagendra New Life Centre (NADKNC) is a non-government organization established in 2026 B.S by late Khagendra Bahadur Basnet dedicated to ensure self-sufficiency and social and economic empowerment to people living with physical disabilities (PWDs).  It was established with a motto “to raise awareness in matters of disability in the community and enhance the growth and development of physically disabled people of the country.”

Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Optional Protocol, United Nations defines Persons with disabilities (PWDs) include those have long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.

NADKNLC aims to ensure the environment for people with disabilities to be an independent, self-reliant and productive citizen by making them participate directly in the development process of the country. We aim to create an opportunity of trainings and orientation of skill development to rehabilitate and re-establish the people with disabilities in the mainstreaming of the society.
